XYZ calibration failures and Y axis crashes
I just received my Prusa i3 MK3S last week and assembled it over the weekend. It initially calibrated fine, but I was having some trouble with the prints. I adjusted my PINDA probe and recalibrated, but XYZ recalibration failed multiple times. I initially found my X and Y axis drive gears needed the grub screws tightened, but still failed calibration. I doublechecked the orientation of the gears on the motors and tried just about everything suggested on all the forum posts. The PINDA sensor test worked fine (going from 0 to 1), during calibration I notice the red light going on and off as expected (red when the nozzle is high, off when it drops closer to the table). The only thing I could detect that didn't match the output suggested in the forums was the test to turn the printer off and move the X and Y axis by hand. The X axis moves easily. The Y axis would seem to stick about 4-5 times over the course of travel (maybe about every revolution of the motor spindle). I took the heated bed off and disconnected the drive belt, and I'm able to move the Y frame back and forth without any binding, so it's definitely resistance in the motor. I reassembled everything and it passed XYZ calibration. But when I tried a sample print I started getting crashes on the Y axis when the nozzle is in the middle of the bed. The first few times it crashed it moved the table to the back (bringing Y to 0) and bringing X to the left (also to zero), jiggled the table and X axis, then tried to resume the print. On another print that crashed it simply moved the X to the left, and then jiggled the table (but still in about the middle of the Y axis) then tried to resume the print, which drove the table to the front and then started banging the table against the front.
Am I on the correct track of believing that my Y axis stepper motor may be bad, or is this an issue with the einsy? Is there anything else I should try to troubleshoot the problem?

wrong geer on Y xstepper motoruld be 11T.
There was a problem while ago with a 15 T gear instead of a 11T on the Y stepped motor.

I counted the teeth and I'm actually counting 16t on the Y-axis gear.

Check with Prusa. It should be 11T, I think, I can't count it right now or I could confirm.

Phew... I thought I was going to have to strip some teeth out! 🤣
I chatted with support and we're thinking it's the Y axis stepper motor. Once I get a new one installed I'll update the thread. In the meantime, if anyone has other ideas for me to check, I'm more than willing to continue investigating. Despite the fact that I assembled it, any extra poking around I do will only serve to make me more familiar with the printer.

X and Y motor toothed wheels should be 16 tooth on the Mk3, unfortunately some 20 tooth ones were sent out in error
