XYZ calibration and a ruined bed?
I'm super stoked to put my MK3 kit together! It's my second kit and definitely a step up in quality from my first.
I apologize in advance: I'm not with the printer now, and was only able to run the setup wizard once before hitting the sack last night.
The wizard got to the XYZ calibration and made it through the first iteration fine. I made the rookie mistake of walking away to use the bathroom and came back to this:
I immediately powered the printer off. I've been researching this morning on what to do to fix the calibration issue itself (PINDA height seems to be the leading cause), but a larger question I have: is the bed super damaged/ruined, or can I just keep on going with this bed?

I had a similar scratch on the opposite side of my bed. It wasn't quite as big, but after doing some research on the forums, I covered the scratch with some kapton tape to prevent oxidation.

Doesn't look bad. If the bed is still heating, cover it with tape and don't forget to fix the root cause for the second try 😉

Best option is to buy some solder mask, its the same stuff that was originally on it. You can buy some from Bangood for around £2.20, solder mask prevents the copper traces from oxidizing. I'd only use Kapton tape as a tempory measure.

I have some Kapton on my bed, covering a scratch from 3rd party spring steel. (BuildTak)
I’ve also heeard nail polish works, but I don’t like not knowing if it can take the heat.

I guess I'm not the only one... They did such a nice job laser etching their name on the side of the spring steel sheet that gets covered by the print surface but neglected to polish the edges of the sheet, go figure... I used nail polish on mine and it seems to be holding up but I curse Build-Tak every time I remove my sheet and look at the bed.

Wow, this looks nasty. I was shocked when mine got scratched but after seeing this I am glad the damage was much less.

Nail polish can be easily removed with Aceton. I tried it: the acetone does NOT remove the black coating of the PCB:-)
But do it at your own risk.
I use nail polish on "my scratches" on the heatbed.

Here's another vote for nail polish. 🙂
My nozzle took some of the solder mask off about two months ago. I used a thin layer of clear nail polish and it's held up well. I've run the bed everywhere from 60°C to 100°C since then and it hasn't shown any signs of breaking down.
