X-Carriage Alignment During Assembly

Hello!

I am new to assembling a 3D printer, so I may be the source of the problem. Here's my issue:

I'm at Section 5 Step 22 of the MK3S+ assembly instructions. This is where the X-Carriage is attached to the extruder assembly with one M3x40 bolt. After routing the wires and carefully putting the X-Carriage in place, it appears exactly as depicted in the manual. However, the bolt will not proceed past the X-Carriage and into the extruder motor. I tried the adjacent hole as a test, and the bolt won't pass through that side, either.

I removed the X-Carriage and took a photo. (Attaching to this post) There are marks the show that the holes in the X-carriage and the other piece don't line up.

With the X-Carriage removed, the bolt will pass through the assembly as expected so I believe the holes are just in the wrong place

My question is: how do I remedy this? Enlarging the holes might be an option, but I'm not sure that would be a good idea in the long run.

Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Something isn't right there. The screw that holds the filament sensor arm should not be protruding from the back like it is in your photo... wrong screw size?

Wow, Cynan...good eye!

I disassembled it and, yes: I had used a 20 instead of an 18, which protruded. Since there was a hole in the X-Carriage, the parts went together.

Almost.

After I swapped out the screw for one of the correct length, I reassembled everything and I was able to get the 40 into the holes with relative ease.

Thank you again for your sharp eyes!
