X Axis not smooth to the left

I assembled my printer a while ago. Since then I printed a few thing (Benchy, Prusa logo, treefrog, whistle, two of my own designs and something from the internet), 20 hours in total. It all printed without problems directly from the start (apart from some bridging issues on the inside of whistle).

I started another print and it failed, due to a crash being detected. I tried to adjust the belts, but I found out that the X axis moves smoothly to the right, but to the left is a problem (even with the belt being completely loose). Because of this, it seems to detect it moved all the way to the left, so my homing ends up in the wrong point. I found another post with the same issue on this forum, but that happened after 30-40 hours, with the suggestion to disassemble the X axis, grease the bearings and that worked for that user.

Should I do the same or is it because it happened so quickly a sign that I did end up tightening the bearings too much, damaged them, and I should just replace them?

RE: X Axis not smooth to the left

Bearings have a shipping oil that evaporates. It really isn't for lubrication. Adding a few drops of machine oil might help until you get time to pack the bearings with a grease.

Another source of issues is the extruder plastic size can be off (it's printed, right?) - some crush the bearings or cause alignment issues, and relaxing the case screws near the bearings has helped some.  Loosen them (about four screws) and see if the extruder moves more freely. Then tighten until you feel more drag, then stop and backoff a quarter turn.

The bearings can take a bit of compression and they will rebound, especially on the X axis ; the U-bolts on Y aris a bit less forgiving, but even they generally don't damage the bearings when a bit too tight.

RE: X Axis not smooth to the left

I had the same problem. I've had the MK3S for a couple of months now with no problems at all and suddenly moving left on the x-axis was a big issue. Turned out that the rubber on the lowest bearing was torn. The rubber on the side that keeps the dirt out of the bearing. So when it moved right, the torn piece of rubber just trailed after the bearing and there were no problems. But when it moved left, the rubber piece got into the bearing, causing friction.

So I ordered a new bearing. I'm still waiting on it to arrive.

I had the same problem as 57topstalk on my kit build.  Same bearing and it has taken me a week and this forum to look at that bearing. Tried Prusa customer service but no joy.

Thanks for posting
