X Axis Noises

So I just put together my MK3s+ over the weekend, and when printing, I hear beeping almost like a fax machine at times. This is most apparent during x-axis movement especially during the perimeter passes. Not sure if this is expected or maybe I assembled something wrong??

RE: X Axis Noises

Upon close inspection I did notice that both my x and y belts are touching the edges of the motor and pulley not sure if that could be a problem?

RE: X Axis Noises

I believe you are describing the stepper motor noise.  Sometimes when it is printing a curved shape the noises are more apparent (sing-song-be-e-ee-e-epp).  That would be normal.

It is probably louder to your ears than the noise is - the frame of the printer, and the hardness of the feet let the stepper motor noise resonate through to the table, and probably down to the floor. I've seen it be dramatically loud - until you lift the printer off of the table - when you hear how much noise is actually being made.  There are a number of modifications that allow the noise to be cut to a whisper.

My list is:

Squash Ball Feet mod - Biggest bang for resonance transfer

Put a strap around your Y motor so it hugs the frame tightly (use a large zip tie) - this will quiet a lot of the Y motor noise - the stock mount leaves the motor body a paint-layer's width away from the back frame - so when the motor vibrates, it makes more of the same noise you described.   Strapping the motor gives it more stability (imo) and cuts the Y axis noise to a whisper.

Sometimes the front control box case whines because the case is a snap fit and you get a plastic on plastic resonance at certain frequencies.  I put a strap around my case - it's ugly.  There are probably other ways to solve this, but the Zip tie strap got rid of more resonance buzz.
