Why is my filament no longer adhering (all layers)

After dozens of very successful prints both large and small, suddenly I can't get a good print.

See the attached picture. Here are the salient points:

  • A. Notice the bottom has warped and curls upwards (both front and rear). In other prints, this warping causes most prints to not stick. I used glue to get this one to work.
    B. Notice the crack by the cabin roof.
    C. Notice the "caking" of layers.
    D. More layers peeling and cracking.
    E. It's hard to see, but there are quite a few wisps as well.
    F. Here is a test square I printed. The numbers are my bed level correction numbers. Are these too extreme?
  • My gut feeling is that the nozzle is too low, but if I raise the z-offset any higher, nothing will stick to the bed.

I cleaned the plate with acetone for first print, then isopropyl alcohol between all others.

    Any ideas?

What material are you using? I'm guessing this is ABS, because this behavior is not typical of PLA or PETG. Have you changed filaments? Have you changed extrusion temperature, bed temperature, or fan settings? Is the ambient temperature and airflow changed? ABS needs careful control of temperature.

It was indeed ABS. I ordered four Hatchbox filiments and had forgotten to look at the time. Thanks. Now I'm off to the world of different filaments. Didn't think I'd be going there this soon.

I notice the option to "Print from SD" option seems to be defaulted to PLA settings. I preheated to ABS but when I selected "Print to SD", it started cooling down to PLA temperatures. Is there a setting somewhere I can change to fix that?

When you print from SD, it's going to use G-Code stored on the SD card. And the G-code was created by slicing, usually starting with an STL file. But during the slicing process, the slicer customizes the G-code to use parameters appropriate to the filament (and printer) that it's been set up to use. So evidently the file on your SD card was sliced with PLA in mind as the material in use.

The only way to change the behavior is to re-slice the file while telling the slicer that the target material is ABS, and then save the changed file on your SD card (or else print the G-code from a USB port on your computer, or use a Raspberry Pi and Octoprint to print the new file).

Makes sense to me. I'm using the Benchy boat gcode that came with the printer and haven't had success with it in ABS so far. I don't have the original stl to slice so I guess I'll have to abandon these prints for now.

Thanks kazibole. I got the stl, generated the gcode in Sli3er, and quickly melted a bunch of plastic on my print bed lol. Well, it looks terrible anyway. I'm going to back off on this. I'm too much of a noob to figure ABS out right now (at least using anything other than some default settings).

    I appreciate everyone's help.

This really had me LOL. I'm with ya friend. Gonna try ABS soon to print the latest part fan duct and kinda expect the first attempts to do just that. 😆
