Why is it printing a floor in mid-air?

As per title, I made a 3d bracket (first one printed without issues), made some modifications and printed a second one. Model and slicer both do NOT have a phantom floor.

Pic of the model in slicer to show what was exported to SD card as a g-code file.

pic of the print showing the printer deciding to randomly print a floor in the open space of the bracket.

Any idea to find out what caused this? This print takes about 17 hours, but redesigning it changed it to 24 hours (which I didn’t understand why), and now that this phantom floor appeared, I can see how an additional 5 hours was added if it’s going to fill in this empty space (I designed and positioned the part to not need any supports)

Appreciate the help!

Try this file,

there were errors in your original STL.
I used NetFabb to fix them...

Attach your 3MF project file

Save your current  3MF project file, zip it up, and attach it to a reply here so we can see your part & settings and give better recommendations. It's difficult to interpret pictures without seeing the part & settings.

Files attached in dropbox

Forum wouldn't allow me to attach the file due to security reasons... they're in a dropbox link:

Hi Daniel,

If you ZIP compress a file, you should be able to attach the Zip file

Hey Joan, really appreciate the feedback! Could you specify what error? I drew it in Google Sketchup, and I know it's not the best for 3d printing.... will need to learn other modeling software soon. Sketchup did not identify any wall in the triangle space.

I just found out not too long after posting - when I looked at the slice settings in PrusaSlicer, I noticed that changing it from ".05 ultra detail" to another setting ended up removing that phantom floor. Is there something that would cause the slicer to create a floor in a detailed-oriented setting versus a draft setting?

Thanks again!

Thanks Daniel,

I didn't look to see what the error was, I simply passed the file to Netfabb to be fixed, and it came back fixed,

sometimes the STL generator drops in a small error to keep us on our toes...  🙂
