Weird Noise during print

Hello Everyone !

I finished to mount my new MK3S and it finally works !

I tried to print the benchy boat and it worked great but i noticed a weird noise coming from the head... Does someone knows what's wrong ?

Here is the video of that noise :

Thanks for your time 🙂 !

Can it be the ball inside the head vrombing ?

Others have been reporting extruder squeaks, too.  No clue what is causing it; but do a search for extruder noise. Maybe someone has solved it.

I am getting the same noise.  I have put lithium grease on the idler bondtec gear, drilled out the filament path.  The comment about the ball might be on to something would it be possible to grease the ball in the socket?

No. you'd get grease on your filament, which is bad.

I have definitely put aside the ball theory, it would make a different noise ... My guess is the extruder idler screw that is too tightened or the PTFE tube scratching the bondtech gear. I also read that this noise disappears by itself after several printing hours but I'm not satisfied by this answer since I don't like magic explanations 😀 !

I will investigate more about this and tell my conclusions.

If you put grease only on the gear it's fine right ? This article might tell you how to do it : https://blog.prusaprinters.org/top-6-tips-original-prusa-i3-3d-printer-maintenance/ at section 4/ .

I am also new with the printer.  I am wondering if the noise goes away because the gear just grinds away the top of the ptfe tube?

They asked about greasing the filament sensor ball in the post I was replying to. Yes, it's fine if you're careful not to get grease on the part of the bondtech that contacts the filament.

It should be rectified, not wait for it to go away. Else you risk PTFE shavings inside your filament path, resulting in clogs.

In a proper assembly, the PTFE does not touch the gears. If it is and is grinding, likely the PTFE has either worked loose/up (Collet clips, people, collet clips!), the hotend was incorrectly assembled, or the PTFE was too long to begin with.

My PTFE touches the gear, it has never squeaked.

Mine has always sat a smidgen below unless it worked its way up. But in your case it is not getting pulled up and into the gears, so if it's not squeaking, then I suspect you are fine.

My collet is working ... lol.

I have the save problem, especially when the gear retracts the filament. I guess the friction between filament and PTFE tube causes the noise, because the gear is pushing the filament horizontally against one side of the PTFE tube. I will try adjust the gear position to see if it goes away.

Would like to have some official support. They know the printer better.

SOLVED

So, I got a brand new mk3s just few days ago and I have this squeaking sound coming out of the extruder... IT IS SO ANNOYING!!!!

the reason for the noise is that the PTFE tube is touching the rollers

The SOLUTION - Take out the spring screw and open the rollers housing, take a wooden BBQ skewer and GENTLY push the tube down untill you have some space between the tube and the rollers.

I belive that the better solution is to take the extruder apart and push the tube in to place or maybe even take a milimiter off of it because thats all it takes to fix it 1-1.5 mm.

This mathood worked for me, I hope I gave you some food for thought.

FOR OFFICIAL SUPPORT - make the tube shorter.

RE: Weird Noise during print

Thank you for your post. It’s very inspiring. If that is the case, then it explains why I hear the noise more when the gears pull the filament up. It might be the filament is so thick that it takes the tube up with it, which cause the tube touching the gear. I’m wondering if cutting the tube short would permanently solve this issue,  if not, use something to lock the tube in place might make the problem go away. Wanna listen to your updates.

the tube should be locked in place by the collet. if the sleeve of the collet has been pushed down then it won't lock on the tube. look on thingiverse for a collet lock clip that fits under the ring to help lock it.

Looks good

I also found this guide on how to get to the tube without taking the whole extruder apart
