Test prints evaluation pls

The upper print came loose during printing - aborted.

Second print was with gluestick.  Worked well for first layer but is the the extra stringing normal?  Or do I need to adjust layer thickness somehow?

Thanks.

Always hard to gauge from photos but the nozzle looks way high. I'd redo the 1st layer calibration with something like this https://www.printables.com/model/105404 rather than thre built in method.

Thanks, I will look at that.

I did the first-layer test several times. The last one had it tearing up the layer like it was dragging so I backed off a little.

RE:

Post a picture of the rectangle of the first layer calibration still on the bed. It's a bit tricky to get right in the beginning, get some feedback here. It does not matter if you did the calibration several times if you misjudged the result...

You do not need glue stick when printing PLA on an clean Prusa PEI sheets (does not matter which). Normally glue stick is used to reduce adhesion for certain material combinations... See https://help.prusa3d.com/materials

If it worked for you when printing PLA it is most likely because it added an additional layer to your print bed and effectively reduced the z-height not because it is needed. You get the same or even more consistent results by correctly setting the first layer calibration.

And no, stringing is not normal and do not change the slicer settings, use default settings (quality .2mm), the stringing is most likely also cause by to high first layer (filament not sticking to the bed where it should).

Thanks.  I did get the first layer dialed in finally.  I was afraid of getting it too low but now it works great!

That's a common fallacy for folks new to the Prusa — they're afraid to go low enough with Live Z.

Yep. I imagined a gouged plate, ruined extruder, broken belts...  😁
