Shell Quality
Good evening all,
I hoping someone here will be able to point me in the right direction.
I recently obtained an MK3 with the powder coated spring steel sheet (Love it.)
I am having issues with shell quality on larger prints, and by larger I mean 2" plus in height. I have added a few imaged as examples of what I am experiencing. I am unsure if this is something addressable or if this is the nature of fff printing.
With smaller models, I do not run into these same shell issues. It seems like I may be over extruding but I have not nailed this down to be the cause. The first image is what I am looking to obtain throughout my prints, material is white petg and in my opinion looks great.
The second image is pla, and as you can see I had a little trouble printing this, but all in all the layer lines are consistent.
The third image is grey pla. The majority of this print looks fine until you get towards the top of Cthulhu's head. I could understand if this was axis related, but the anomaly is consistent around the entire print.
Is this something I should expect, or is this an issue that can be remedied? Could this be a feature of the models that I am slicing, maybe settings? I have tried both S3d with Prusa profiles, and PrusaSlicer with the same end result.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I've just had a look at an old picture on my phone of that exact same cthulu model. And I have the same lines in the same places, as mine was also in the same shade of grey its scary how similar they look. I suspect its the amount of plastic being laid down by the slicer. I'm going to guess you are using Prusa Slicer like I did for that model.
Depending on the model geometry the slicer can have a few issues as it transitions with perimeters and infill. Just do a search for bulge when get to.... type posts on here for an example of the type of effect. Beware its a rabbit hole though. You can spend much time tweaking settings or you could try a different slicer.
If you are worried that it is a height based issue with the hardware having problems when getting to certain heights then you could just print a tower at that height and see if the artefacts are in fact height based or model based.
