Safe to use electrical tape?

Just a hopefully quick, silly question - I noticed some fraying of a cable within the electronics portion of my MK3. I wrapped it with electrical tape. Is that safe?

Thanks!

Re: Safe to use electrical tape?

It really depends on the cable that has been repaired. If a cable has frayed, you first really need to make sure it doesn't happen again. Make sure whatever was rubbing against it is repositioned, cable tied or sleeved correctly.

Electrical tape is just a quick fix. Heat shrink tubing is probably a better repair. If any of the conducting wires under the insulation have broken too, then that cable might need rejoining (soldered perhaps) or replacing the cable with a fresh one. If a power cable (say the 24v connection to the heated bed) has broken conductors and is just taped up, it could generate heat at the point where the damage occurred and melt the insulation.

Which cable has suffered damage?

I slightly frayed the power cable (red) going to the extruder - did it trying to get the cable tie off while doing the extruder upgrade.

Electrical tape is fine, that's what it's used for.
