Retraction problems
Hi,
I have my mk3 printer a few weeks now, started of with prints having some amount of zits, so I found on youtube to adjust the retraction settings.
Ended up on 2mm retraction distance and 0.2mm extra restart distance (should mention that I'm using simplify3d), and larger objects with not to many retractions print fine now, no more zits.
Today I decided to try the overwatch tracer model ( https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-overwatch-tracer-full-figure-42704 ), but the retractions that got the zits away now cause the extruder to jam every time it reaches the end of the base and starts the feet.
This due to to many retractions and not enough extrusion between causing molted pla to get to the cold end of the extruder and forming a clog.
I can see this clog each time (4 failed prints so far) I unload the filament, it has a thicker part at the end. Also, if I remove the retraction settings, it doesn't jams, but the result is not good.
Tried rectractions between (2/0.2) and (1, 0.1), they all jam.
So I need to find some settings that don't cause zits to appear, but also let me print small/ large objects with or without lots of rectractions.
Any advice?
ps: I'm still using the roll of filament I got with the printer, at 215/60C, 60mm/s, 50% outline speed, 50% infill

Try less retraction distance, but with increased retraction speed. and move faster between points, actually you can put a silly value in the move speed, the firmware will limit the speed.
The idea is that the retractions reduce the oozing which is causing the zits, but moving faster between printing, reduces the time for the oozing to cause zits, you can also try increasing the fan speed to increase cooling, but not too much else it may affect layer adhesion.
Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.
