« Regular » layer X axis shift

Hello,

I assembled my MK3 with some trouble, but nothing unbearable. The first prints went wonderfully okay.

And then, more often than not, I get a weird but (almost) systematic layer shift on the X axis, around 5mm height (the two objects on the photos are laying flat, but are printed vertically ; each photo shows only one side - left side of first object, right side of second object). This shift is sooo regular that, when two objects are put side to side, there is an almost perfect match (third photo).

Any idea what may cause this ?

I did print a calibration cube (20x20x20). The flaw is quite visible. Surprisingly enough, because I had not seen this before, it appears twice (bottom and top).

Any idea how to correct this ?

Using Prusa Slicer, latest release.

Several tests on the machine have led me to focus on the X stepper motor, which clearly « blocks » sometimes.

What do you mean by blocks?

@Bob

Printer powered off, x-belt removed, x-axis motor unscrewed from its orange holder. When slowly turning the pulley, resistance is not constant. Usually pulley turns ok (small resistance). After one turn and a half (more or less) resistance suddenly becomes far stronger, need more force to overcome. Then gets back to normal, up to next time.

This sounds like a new printer, perhaps you should have a chat session with Prusa support, maybe you got a bad stepper that can be replaced under warranty.
