Raised lettering disappearing when sliced / printed

Hello,

I am new to 3D printing, so I apologize in advance for asking something that may be pretty simple to solve. I am trying to print some tool holders for my tool box to organize some of the sockets. I printed a successful copy initially from someone else's STL file, but when I created my own design in Fusion360, I am unable to get the raised text to print. The tool holder prints great, just not the lettering on top. The lettering is fairly small, but shows up initially in the Prusa Slicer. I don't see a way to upload the model files on the Forum, so I have included screen shots below. Is it possible that my letters are just too thin and not tall enough? I would appreciate any advise you could give.

Thanks!

David

Hello and welcome to the Prusaforum!

If you print with a 0.4mm nozzle, you cannot print lines narrower than 0.4mm or the set layer width. You will either have to increase the font size or use a smaller nozzle (e.g. 0.25mm).
STL or other data can be zipped and uploaded via "add Media" here.

RE: Raised lettering disappearing when sliced / printed

You have to work backwards - The finest line you can print is, effectively, the extrusion width (which can be tweaked, with care, in the slicer) and anything finer will never be printed.

The default for a 0.4mm nozzle is 0.45mm.

So: Examine your fount, find the finest line and measure it - if it is less than the extrusion width you will have to try a larger size or a different fount.

If possible, for the cleanest text, map all your smaller fount sizes to ones where the narrowest stroke is a multiple of the extrusion width.

Hth, Cheerio,

Thanks for the great answers! Exactly my problem, I'm sure. I measured some of the font cross sections in Fusion and  I am at .256 mm. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me some advice. Very helpful.

Take care,

David
