prusa mk3s+ y-motor holder

Hello my friends. My y - motor holder got broken slightly as you can see from the pictures. And because its slightly broken the motor also doesnt stand straight right now. I can still print without any problems. So my question is should I print a new one and replace it ? Also whats the best and easiest way to change this part? Thank you.

Yes, definitely print a new motor mount ASAP. The stress on the motor shaft by the belt tension may eventually cause a problem. Be sure to print in PETG or a material with similar properties.

I believe there are two or three machine screws threaded through the rear of the frame into captured nuts in the motor mount. Use an Allen key to back the screws out, trying to release the tension evenly. You may need to use a needle nose pliers to hold the exposed nut in your photos. Use a small screwdriver or Allen key to pry the captured nuts out of the broken motor mount.

If you have trouble fighting the belt tension getting the new motor mount back on the frame, you may have to loosen the belt tension at the adjustment point under the center of the bed. The Prusa online assembly manual will show all of these steps clearly.

FWIW, there are a variety of third party alternate motor mount and idler pulley mount designs in the Prusa and other print libraries. Some of them provide a simpler belt tension adjustment on the idler pulley mount. Might be worth a look.

Good luck and have fun.
