Problems with very new printer (DIY KIT)

Hey
i got my new printer few days ago an i was vere excited, but now...

The Z and Y axis a prety loud, i tried to loose and retighten the Z-axis-nuts(found this in the forum) but it ditn't work in my case.
I tightened the Y axis belt but for me the tension is prety high(belt state =278 after new selftest) X=285 depending on different troubleshooting sites it's OK 240 to 300 or not 240+/- 40
the benchy(original gcode) looks on the right side in the back not good because the printer is shaking
printer is for now on the floor => stable surface

the screws from the left fan are thightened prety good(for me too much, afraid to breake the fan) now but on X-homing they touching the Z screws. is this normal?

Something else is maybe also wrong because if i printe the jp-whistle the bridging layer didn't stick propperly an few lines fall down
in general i have a little over extrusion
the left heck side of the benchy also shows some gaps, couldn't found a description of such print failure
i used the original Prusament whitch came with the printer
i already had a failed print because the filament got stuck in the nozzle 🙁

i hope someone can help 🙂
THX
PS: i do have some mechanic skills, so i thought it's no problem for me to assemble the printer propperly,

Thaks for your help 🙂

Re: Problems with very new printer (DIY KIT)

A couple of things:

My opinion: the belt tension numbers on the LCD are not useful for belt tension, but are useful for detecting bearings that are too tight. Gates recommends to test tension using the deflection method.

The fan screw heads should not touch the motor drive shafts. The extruder should stop by contacting at the surface between the fan and the rails. Check the fan fits snug against the extruder body - no gaps. If the fan isn't positioned right, the extruder will over heat and cause all sorts of print problems.

Hey
For me it's like every time i start the printer another problem tahes my attention...

deflection method with fingers, or measure the force, i'm sadly not sure

because of the screw heads, everything looks good, no cables clamped, gap,..., maybe it's just 0.1-0.2mm but they touch the thread 🙁 maybe i ask the support therefore? or just take a file and shorten the screw 😀

Prints from ogiginal SD-Card look not too bad but... i think this could happen because of the belt tension
Bridging did not work propperly on whistle

"ghosting" / bad vibrations mostly from Y-axis

Thaks for your help 🙂

Re: Problems with very new printer (DIY KIT)

Which screws did you use for the fan? Pan head or the socket head? Photo?

Whistle - did you print .gcode or slice the STL? If slicing the STL, you need to set "DETECT BRIDGING". If that's the gcode, I can only say my printed very nicely, but there are a few people having issues - you might search the forums for "whistle" ...

Benchy - can't really help on the pattern; but there is a tower test on the Prusa site for examining diagonal moire.

Hey
Thanks a lot for your Support 🙂

The screws are the recomended M3x14 i also loose the Extruder from the X-carriage and looked if there is some tolerance i can use... nothing changed

i also printed the tower looks good. but if i print in normal printing speed something is resonating/soaring up, maybe i disasamble few parts tomorrow.
but i also heared some "rattleing" in the PSU, hmmm... i look tomorrow...

picture of the whistle was the original gcode
i sliced the whistle and the was fine...

Thaks for your help 🙂

Re: Problems with very new printer (DIY KIT)

I don't see anything wrong with the fan assembly; but I have not converted to Mk3S yet. My Mk3 screws are very close to hitting, but are NOT contacting the lead screw. Maybe Prusa dropped the ball on this and the new S parts don't have the bumper the old parts needed. Maybe the new Mk3S X-Axis carriage parts have the bumpers now.

I'd definitely turn to Prusa at this point. Log into the store and use CHAT. It takes a while for them to respond, but they will, and should be able to help figure out the screw issue (though keep in mind they may just say it is normal and expected). I had to redesign the top brackets to eliminate a similar issue of screws hitting before the actual stops made contact.

The power supply mount does rattle ... not much to do about that. I moved the two rail holders a bit and improved the noise, but it may come back.

As for other noises, the printer uses stepper motors, and they are inherently noisy compared to normal analog driven DC motors. The frame, table, belts, rods, all have resonances that add to the noise as the steppers accelerate. Using Stealth Mode helps a lot. Lowers the noise about 10dB and only increases print times 10% or so. A good trade off.

Hey

Thanks again for your support

i don't know where i should start...
disassembled many parts to get a better understanding of the noises,...
there is some ratteling inside the PSU... will ask the support
noisy Z-Axis has realy something to do with the Z-Axis Nut but couldn't solve the problem yet
checked the Y-Axis bearings thought it's a good idea because of printig quality... and so on

maybe tomorrow or one of the next days i need to focus on one spezial problem.... but now i need a break...

everything reassembled i liked to check changes. look what came out.
i think the PTFE-Tube is too long, particles jamed the nozzle or so ,... idler,... i allready read this with your answers.

thanks again but i need to take a day of from trying to fix my printer 🙁

Thaks for your help 🙂

Z-Axis is the up and down motion. On my printer it is virtually silent. If yours makes noise, you have something touching where it shouldn't. Take some photos of your printer as it is and post them. Prusa will probably want to see them, too. Front, side and rear views; and one that shows Y-Axis bearings mounted under the bed.

PTFE looks normal.

Hey

I wasn't at home for a few days...
Had another failed print while printed with another belt tension.
My PTFE tube was loosen, moved up and down...

Many, many problems 🙁

Thaks for your help 🙂

Re: Problems with very new printer (DIY KIT)

Did you receive a KIT or an Assembled Printer?

PTFE moving up and down is because the collet was not locked when assembled; that will cause all sorts of issues. Need to fix that first, and it requires removing the hot end from the extruder body.

Then, when you get it right, be sure to add a collet clip (try printing a few before tearing the printer apart). Even a wrap of wire to hold the collet up will work.

Part of a paper clip works too.
