Problems with PETG

hi all,

I only use my printer with PLA so far since I always had issues with PETG.

I tried it with one or two Prusa PETG filaments, now I have Sunlu PETG I want to use.

i’m using their textured sheet, bed temperature is set to 85 and nozzle to 230°.

I think the issue is such a PETG is not sticking to the bed, but I might be wrong. I’m just a bit confused because I’ve read that PETG sticks quite well and even better than PLA.

what can I do to print nicely with PETG.

thanks a lot!

RE: Problems with PETG

Your nozzle is too high.  Did you create a sheet profile for your textured sheet?

no I did not. I didn’t even know that something like that exists.

I tried the live calibration. But maybe I still did not go low enough?

Typically the coated sheets are much thinner than the smooth sheets.

You are correct, your first layer offset calibration did not go low enough, revisit it.  Before doing so change the sheet identifier on the LCD menu and the sheet's dimensions will be allocated to that identity for easy sheet-swaps later on.

Sometimes new textured sheets do not begin to work well until they have been washed.

Cheerio,

RE:

Yes, the MK3S+ has menu options that allow you to choose different sheets. You need to choose SHEET from the main option and change to another option then set the Z height properly. You are much too high in that pic. Now one caveat.. you'll forget to change back to your smooth PEI sheet after you physically put the smooth sheet on and print with PLA.. and you might gouge your smooth sheet! (your machine will think you still have rough sheet on and will use the lower Z.. putting nozzle into your smooth sheet).. so be aware of this. I had to wash and slightly scour my Prusa textured sheet a few times with a plastic sponge (soap/water)  to get, what I assume, is some manufacturing residue off.. Now I just leave it on the rough sheet and use glue stick when I use PLA.

PETG prints great on the MK3S+ once the Z is good.
