Problems with first articulated print
Hello there! I am new to 3D printing! I have been enjoying it so far. Today I decided to try a print-in-place print. I specifically went with this shark [here]( https://www.printables.com/model/178032-articulated-shark/comments?search=fin). The print printed phenomenally from what I can see. However, it was at the very top of the print (the fin in particular) that it got messed up.
Once I downloaded the STL file, I sliced it on Prusa Slicer with default Prusament PLA settings @ **0.2mm layer height**. (I did notice that the OP recommended printing at 0.16mm, unsure if that has to do anything related to the problem). My printer is a Prusa MK3S+, and I use **Prusament PLA printing at 215C/60C**.
In the comment section below the print, one person mentioned adding a height modifier to the top fin to be sharper. Unsure what I should do. I want to reprint this again as a present to give.
Any help will be greatly appreciated it.
RE: Problems with first articulated print
that kind of issue is due to the part "too small". The hotend stays on the same spot for too much time and the part have no time to cool down and to keep the shape.
You can try adding on the plate a second object with the same height, placed far away from the shark. That way the extruder will need to move to print the second object and give some more time to the fin to cool down.
I'm not an expert. Ma parlo anche italiano 😉
RE: Problems with first articulated print
The easiest is to do as Antonio suggests and print something else that has the same height located away from the part.
However one other option is to go into Prusa Slicer, making sure you are in expert mode so you can see all the settings and then going to Filament Settings>Cooling>Cooling Thresholds > Slow down if layer print time is below.
The value in there is probably around 20 seconds. This means when the print for a layer is below that value the printer will slow right down. To the minimum speed defined in the next setting.
Change the time value to something like 3-5 seconds. That way it has to be a really small layer to slow down. This can help when printing things like thin posts and should help with your shark fin.
