Problems printing on supports
Hey folks,
Trying to print Thor's Axe Stormbreaker for a friend and I'm having trouble with the first layer that's laying down on the supports. First picture shows the first layer that's going down on the supports. Second picture is the top section of the print that finishes looking fine. How can I correct this?
Printed .10mm layers, with generic PLA, no z lift, 215 first layer temp and 205 for other layers. I sliced this is Slic3r and didn't adjust any default settings in the supports section and merely checked to generate supports. A lot of this was printed at 50% speed as well!

Still new here, but that seems to be what the bottom edge above support is going to look like. Not sure what slicer you are using, but try:
1) Decreasing your Z distance so that your supports end closer to the print. This will make the print better, but the supports harder to get off. I find Cura to have the best supports of the free slicers, but YMMV.
2) Slowing things down. This seems to be the 3d printing equivalent of "Turn it off then on again". Basically, it solves a fair amount of issues.
3) Guaranteed to work->Cut the model in half so that it prints with 2 flat sides against the bed, then glue it together. It's more work, but it does turn out well, at least for me

I doubt you will ever get a good enough finish with supports. As already suggested slice it in half horizontally and print them with the sliced side down, then glue together.

Or rotate it and have the back side towards the built plate (might need to add a brim if it is super narrow)
