Printing issues with Prusament

Hi there. I'm new (1 week) to 3D printing but so far I like this!

I have some issues with the Prusament filament, while the stock grey filament "Made for Prusa" gives much better results.

The issue is more visible with the example print "Gear bearing" gcode, which is OKish in grey but almost always fails with prusaments. Here are some example of failed first-layer printing with black and blue Prusament.

Compared with the stock grey filament, the black and blue filaments flow more from the nozzle  when the nozzle is heated. So much so that the Z calibration at the beginning of each print sometimes leaves small plastic dots all over the plate, one for each measurement. During printing, the filament tends to stick to the nozzle, then the residue stuck to the nozzle merges with the filament being extruded.

Any guidance for the steps I need to take ?

Thanks!

Here is a link to a video showing another failed attempt. You can see filament oozing during preheating.

sometimes you may need to slightly adjust z height, not only for different filament types, but for different rolls of same type

@xayoz

Thanks, I omitted to say that I performed first layer calibration with this filament. I will try to post pictures of the calibration later.

Here is an example of another print with a different filament brand, "Fillamentum - PLA Extrafill - Crystal clear Iceland Blue". First try with this one but I consider this try successful.

So far I tested 4 filaments: two Prusament, one Fillamentum, and one "Made for Prusa". I only have oozing and first layer issues with the two Prusament ones.

Can lowering the temperature help ? Current temperatures from the gcode are 215 for first layer, then 210.

Can you post a picture of the back of your first layer. I've hard to tell from the pictures up, but you might need a better first layer calibration.

Also clean your build plate with the hottest (don't burn yourself) water that comes out of your faucet and unscented dish soap like original Dawn dish soap. You don't want o finger prints or any oily substance on the plate. You shouldn't have to do this before every print as long as you don't put your hands all over the plate, just touch the edges if possible.

Here's a better way to get the first layer right.

Thanks 🙂 But I did all of this: cleaned with soap, hot water + isopropanol 99%.

I also use the exact method you gave for 1st layer calibration. Here I stop after the first layer because for this model (gears) I usually get unrecoverable printing failures at this step.

I was able to do 1st layer calibration using https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/20306-first-layer-calibration and the two prusament filaments with correct adhesion. I'm starting to think that the problem comes from the continuous oozing that I get only using prusaments.

Will post pictures of back of the prints a bit later, as you requested.

Here is another view of the Crystal clear, different angle:

And the back:

Back, another light source:

I also show the first layer calibration with the grey filament. I didn't change the Z value as it looked good to me.

front:

And finally the gears with the grey filament, first layer. I don't know if I should get better results with other settings or calibration.
