Printer not extruding enough filament, results in extruded filament tearing

I recently assembled my MK3S and have been trying to get the example prints running, but I've encountered issues with the filament being laid down extremely thinly, to the point where the extruded filament will tear leaving gaps behind. The first layer prints alright since the filament is getting squished onto the bed thoroughly, but the second and third layers always have trouble. I have tried multiple prints with the default PLA settings, as well as tweaking the hotend to be a higher temperature and decreasing the print speed, but I haven't seen much of a difference.

bearing example print, has tearing in each individual piece:

castle example print, stopped partway through the third layer:

The only cause i can think of is too slow extrusion, but if there's another cause that I'm not aware of I'd be happy to hear about it. Whatever the cause is, any suggestions on how to fix it would be appreciated. Thanks!

It’s likely that your first layer z-height is too low, so you may need to raise it.  Please upload an image of just your first layer.

I have exactly the same problem solved by accident a piece of wire jammed the extruded sound how before. Tighten the extruded screw until it flows normally

@mdaneman

tightens the screw of the extruder that tightens the wire, it works

@jean-luc-h2

Thanks for the suggestion, tightening the extruder screw did the trick!

@ak
