Printer job finished, actions before swithing off printer

Hi,

I just assembled the MKS3+ kit and printed the PRUSA logo.

All went well. Z-Offset set to -1.050

What i wonder, what should we do before switching the printer off.

Should we leave the filament in or do we have to remove it.

Thanks in advance,

Fabrizio

You can leave filament in if you like but it depends on the filament.  Some filaments absorb moisture faster than others so you want to repack those in a sealed bag/case with some desiccant as soon as you can.  Others like PLA are ok for awhile.

I prefer to cut the filament a few cm above the extruder and leave a short length in.  This keeps the filament path blocked and means no foreign objects/dust/debris can get into the feed path when not being used.  Basically long enough that I can still grab it when unloading the filament before next using it.  If Im going to be printing with the same filament next anyway (with PLA) then I just leave it in ready for next time.

Even if you are leaving the filament in place you should not power off the printer until the extruder temperature is below the filaments glass transition temp.  Basically you want the extruder fan to keep going until its reduced the extruder temp to a safe level.  Remember yourr extruder is held in place with petg parts.  While the parts of the extruder that are clamped are on the 'cold' side its only cold as long as the fan is running.  If you turn it off too soon then heat could potentially creep up and deform your extruder parts.
