Printer is making a new noise after first 60 hours
  • I just finish my 3rd print which was easily the longest over 24 hours, and I went to print something else when I noticed this noise. I tried lubricating the y and x axis metal bars but that didn’t really seem to help. I received it pre assembled and not the most tech savvy. Anyone have any ideas?IMG_2844 IMG_2837 IMG_2846

Trying to determine where a sound is coming from, in a video is not easy. When you lubricated the rods, did you check the rods to see if there was any groves or deep scratches in them? When moving the bed back and forth by hand, is the squeaking coming from the front near the idler for the bed's belt? You could reach out to prusa support either via chat (from the website) or via email and send them the videos and what steps you have done so far and they can assist as well.

I didn’t feel any scratches on the rods. It’s hard to tell where the sound is coming from but I’d like to say underneath the hot bed or near the back. I’ll look for their support email.

It could be poor internal lubrication of the bearings, possibly due to the age old issue where the Prusa printers are supplied with only anti-rust oil in the bearings rather than the correct lubrication grease. If this is the case then there is a lot of information about the issue on this forum that explains how to clean and lube the bearings properly.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have a guide on how I can try this myself? I tried looking through this forum to find someone talking about it but I’m not sure what I’m looking for. I’m still very new to all of this

RE:

Take out the bearings, put them in isopropyl alcohol for about an hour. If you have, put them into an ultrasonic cleaner.

Then wipe them clean and let them dry for a couple of minutes.

Then lube the balls of the bearings ON THE INSIDE with grease.

I use this stuff, not sure if it's available where you live: https://www.amazon.de/Liqui-Moly-3510-Langzeitfett-MoS2/dp/B00295CR0U?th=1

Any ball bearing grease should be fine.

When you are done, put it back together and it should be like new.

I ended up loosing the y-axis track and greased these 2 spots and the noise stopped. Thanks everyone for all the advice.
