Print Fan Error

So I upgraded my i3 MK3 to the MK3S. However after the upgrade, I am getting a Print Fan Error. The strangest thing about this error is the fan spins during and even after the error occurs. I have checked all the wiring including the soldered connections with no success.

Does anyone have any idea why this would happen even when the fan still spins and works fine?

Thanks!

This was the problem, the yellow wire was pinched. Thank you for the help!

Re: Print Fan Error

Do you think it could be your fan wire. There's a thread on page 3 or 4 that seems to be the same issue possibly?

When you say extruder, do you mean the actual extruder proper? Becuase depending on what you are printing you can run it today, at around 275c. (actual print temp, it can go hotter) Which is 527f... Hot enough to burn paper!

Re: Print Fan Error

The wire connections to the print fan are fairly delicate - somehow I managed to snap mine clean off this afternoon, and all I had done was unscrew the fan from the extruder and let it hang down. Earlier I too got the "print fan error", after it initially being ok, probably the yellow wire disconnected somewhere. Replacement is on its way from Amazon.

RE: Print Fan Error

I just upgraded to prusa3d_fw_3_7_2_MK3 and tried to  print some  IKEA_Hack_ALGOT_Shelf_Monitor_Stand. The print stopped at 90% with the print fan error. Unfortunatly I switched off th MK3 so I had to restart from scratch. Same error at exactly the same spot! Not random but reproducable. I have 2 uncompleted stands that look exactly the same.

3rd print: Resume works for a moment but the error comes back. Unplugging/replugging  the power cord of the printer initiates an automatic recover, almost te same as "resume print". But the process goes in a loop, print fan error, resume, print fan error, resume, unplug while printing + plugin, automatic recover, print error,... Unfortunatly unpluging/replugging while in "print fan error" (before resuming the print)  results in the same situation as a power off. No recover possible.

I checked my cables. Everything is routed perfectly. I only printed 2 bobins so far.The first print-error is at the verry same spot, 3 prints in a row. This must be a firmware issue. I will try to roll-back the firmware and reprint.

RE: Print Fan Error

I am a MK3 user since Jan 2019. I have upgraded to the MK3s/MMU2 in June. Also, in June, I started using PETG. Prior to that I have been successfully printing with PLA. Now, after 1 month of trying to get my system working properly, I have successfuly printed PLA and PETG (in 1 color only so far). OK that is my history. Firmware 3.7.2.2363

Now on to the Fan. With the PETG and a PETG fan shroud I melted through several of these shrouds. So, then I tried printing both type of filament without a Fan shroud. They printed perfectly!

So, my suggestion is take off the fan shroud.   BUT, I am a noobie. So my question is do I need the fan shroud?  🙂

RE: Print Fan Error

I also had this Problem after 2 years of printing.

I observed that the wires where touching where they where solderd in the fan due to a Twist. I separted them carefully and added a drop of epoxy glue to avoid them touching again and provide a better strain relief. I also removed the dust in the fan and added a drop of oil to the bearing. Now it is working again.

RE: Print Fan Error

I discovered that my "Print Fan Error" was caused by the wires that were slightly touching the fan. The wires were pushed against the fan by the litle "clips" indicated by the red arrow. I rerouted the wires behind the clips an the error is gone. I assume the wires were slowing down the fan.

@bart-h2

I had something very similar happen with prints stopping at exactly the same point with 'print fan error' when printed again. Was your latest post the solution? I'll check that the fan is unobstructed. Thanks for the detailed description earlier and pics.

@jevergree

No more fan-erros since I rerouted the wires.
