Plastic film on smooth steel sheet?

I ordered and received my smooth steel sheet (MK3S shipped with textured sheet). I think there is a thin plastic covering both sides of the steel sheet but I can't tell if it's supposed to be there. It's perfectly trimmed to the edge of the sheet. I can see it covering the 2 holes at the bottom of the sheet on both sides. I actually printed PETG with it on before noticing it. Am I supposed to remove this plastic or is it a coating?

Best Answer by Diem:

Yes, it's supposed to be there, that is the print surface, the PEI.  So far you're using it just as intended.

I came to ask this question. Thank you for your answer. However, I find myself having a hard time removing the first layer of any rafts or support off the surface. Any suggestions?

Use a release agent.

Glue stick will work.  Products such as Layerneer or Magigoo are better.  Some folks use plain old hair spray or windex.

It depends on the filament you are using - but once the part has been safely removed you should be OK to use a plastic scraper to shift remaining scraps. ... Cue for next design; design and print a scraper.

But I just use the edge of a previous print.
