Next level first layer dial-in method

Everyone loves printing the 75x75 square as it does a great job at dialing in the Z-height to an almost perfect setting. This is a great step in the process, but I have also found that printing narrower objects can help to dial in that setting even more. I noticed I get a great first layer using the 75x75 square method, but when printing something narrower, things tended to roughen up a bit. So, I use the attached STL (part of a bookmark design) to fine tune the numbers a bit further.

For example, a Z height of 1.25 on my setup yields a great square, but leaves the edges of the narrow test a bit rough. Further adjusting down to 1.11 yields great results on both.

This works well for me, I hope it works well for some of you. This is my first Prusa build, but I found with my previous printer, printing smaller narrower objects helped to tighten things up.

Enjoy!

Sorry, I meant to say -1.125 to -1.110.

Thanks for your input. I didn’t see a file attachment?

Esteemed forum user @fuchsr has created a modification to the well known ‘life adjust z - my way’ process that I assume you’re referencing.

His redesign is here:

https://www.printables.com/model/105404-live-zfirst-layer-calibration-strip

His version provides a longer rectangular reference area with tick marks to indicate when the make your live z adjustments. It’s a very nice tool and a great alternate to the original.

Thanks fuchsr!

Lots of great options available. I think even narrower can be a better test.
