Newbie first project with PC problem

Hello all,

First time poster. New to 3d printing. Assembled my first printer, an MK3S+ kit my kids got me for Christmas. Loving it. Successfully printed quite a few things from PLA and PETG. Trying to print some new wheels for my dishwasher rack from some generic PC and getting really rough looking prints. Here's a picture with a fully printed part, and a few layers. Can anyone tell from my pic if my Temps are off or something? Thanks!

What about your part cooling fan?  Are you turning it on?  Is it a high enough volume? 

It sounds like you're taking the right steps with lowering the temp and slowing it down.  Maybe you should try and all in one test with this filament: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2656594

Hard to say.  The flat circle looks a little like you're down a little too low.  Not by a large margin though, maybe by 0.025 to 0.050.

The wheel itself looks pretty good but the central spire looks a little dodgy.  That transparent filament is hard to see, it's small print can you reprint in another color?  White and black are the toughest to judge, but maybe red, green, or something that isn't such and extreme contrast?

I'll be curious to know if this actually works.  I wouldn't think to try an FDM print in such a hostile environment as a dishwasher.

Yes, the problem is with the stem. It ended up all distorted and sort of melty looking. The object printed fine using the orange PETG that came with the printer kit. This filament came from Amazon: Amazon.com: Transparent PC Filament 1.75mm 3D Printer Filament Dimensional Accuracy +/- 0.05mm, 1KG Spool (2.2LBS), 3D Printing Polycarbonate Material : Industrial & Scientific. I'm using PC because it's rated for higher temps than PLA or PETG (from my limited research and current understanding). The parts may not work, but we don't have any wheels in the dishwasher now so if they work for a while, it will be fine with me.

The first comment in the reviews on Amazon suggested lower temps. Apparently it's a blend so my temps may have been a bit high (275/110). I've lowered to 260/105 and slowed the print speeds down to no more than 20mm, added a brim and trying again. I'll post the results (with a better pic). Thanks for taking a look Bob.

OK, figured out that lower temp and slower speed got me a good part. Orange one is an earlier prototype but the stem is easier to see. Lower left is my first PC part with the gobbled up stem. Lower right was my final good print. Printing 7 more now. Bottom line, nozzle temp was too high and speed was too fast. Thanks for the tips!
