New PLA brand = new first layer calibration ?
Hello!
I use to print with Prusament PLA only on my Prusa i3 mks3 and I have good results with it.
But I have a new spool from an other brand : Geeetech PLA grey 1.75mm.
When printing with it I have several quality problems.
I have more stringing/oozing, so I have reduced the temperature of the extruder and it's a little bit better.
I've got under extrusion problem too so I am playing thiw the flow (extrusion multiplier) to tried to deal with it and find the goods parameters but I was wondering :
Do you think I have to do a new 1st layer calibration due to the new PLA spool ? or just the flow adjustment should be suffisant ? because If I do a new 1st layer calibration I may encounter the same problem when using Prusament again ?
Thank you
Benoit
RE: New PLA brand = new first layer calibration ?
I always create a new filament profile for every new brand and type. I find the filament diameter varies by manufacturer, and that the appropriate extrusion multiplier varies by filament type. It takes 20 minutes when I get a new type of filament in, but it saves a lot of problems and grumbling later.

Thank you for reply Bobstro! So If I understand your reply you make a new PLA profile with propers settings for this new PLA but you don't do again the 1st layer calibration?

And Bobstro, If I can ask you: what kind of tests/prints are you using to calibrate the new PLA?
Thank you very much!

I have had to do the same. Some, I even have to adjust the first layer with.

Here are my notes on my process. It's not exact, but it quickly gives me good results.

Thanks @bobstro
That is pretty close to what I do also.
