New build having X-axis problem

I finished the build last night and started the test today. The fans check out ok but as soon as it gets to the X-axis test it give me a Selftest error and tells me to check the Axis length. I think I've tried every solution I could find in the Knowledge base and in this forum. I've gone so far as to take the whole X-axis assemble apart and rebuild it. As far as I can tell the X motor doesn't even try to run. I've tried it with no load on it at all and nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

RE: New build having X-axis problem

if you try to move the X Carriage by hand, does the X motor rotate?

can you try swapping the Y motor onto the X Motor connector and leave the X motor disconnected, If the Y motor moves (responding to the X motor commands) when you try selftest, then is is likely the X motor is faulty, if the Y motor doesn't move either, then the fault is probably on the Einsy.

If the Y motor does work in the X motor socket, check that the X motor wires are securely installed in the connector.

If you have an ohm meter (Multimeter with resistance setting) check that you can see continuity  there are two coils,
one connected to the green and black wires and one connected between the red and blue wires, if there is a break in the wiring  of one coil the motor will jiggle rather than rotate...

Interestingly I get the same error with nothing plugged into the X connector!

Also, should I be able to access the menu on the LCD before finishing the initial wizard?

@scalmcl

if you choose not to run the wizard, I believe you get access to the LCD Menu afterwards.

if the wizard is waiting for the X axis to move, and it's not moving, having nothing plugged in, is likely to have a similar result.

RE: New build having X-axis problem

I did try the Y motor in the X axis connector but thee was no movement of the Y motor either. I was hoping to check the firmware version currently installed to see if I needed to upgrade that but can not get to the menu.

I'm not sure if the LCD is working correctly. When i turn the power on I get a the message "External SPI flash W25X20CL is not responding, Language switch unavailable." This occurs if the SPI  flash is installed or not. Then sometimes it shows the first part of the "Hi I am you Original Prusa i3 printer. would you like to guide you through the setup process?  >Yes    NO" message and sometimes it goes blank and then shows the second part of the message. Turning the knob at any point will show "Original Prusa i3 Prusa Research ..." for a few seconds and then go back to the first message about the SPI flash not responding.

If I push the knob in during the first message nothing happens, no click at all. If I push the knob during the blank screen or the first part of the guide message it clicks and goes to the second part. If I push it during the second part of the guide message it will click and start the test. Pushing the knob during the "Original Prusa..." message does nothing.

I've tried to flash the firmware but keep getting the "Can not open COM 3" error and am unable to resolve this computer issue. I hope to be able to get access to a different computer to try to reflash the firmware soon.

I am sending this to Customer Support now and hopefully this can be resolved.

@joantabb

 Thank you for your suggestions. It is very much appreciated.
