MK3s works briefly and then gears click and extrusion stops
I built a mk3s from a kit a few weeks ago and I was able to do a 16 hour print in PLA with no issues. A few hours into my next print I noticed underextrusion and then eventually no extrusion. Since then I have not been able to complete a print. The printer will work briefly and then the extrusion will dwindle and then stop and the extruder gears will click. Once the extrusion has stopped I can start it again by clearing the nozzle with a needle. This initially lead me to believe it was a clog so I switched nozzles but the issue didn’t go away. I don’t believe it is a heat break issue as it happens so quickly after starting a print. I know it’s not an unmeltable item in the nozzle because it happens with a brand new nozzle. The only thing I can think of is that the nozzle is somehow cooling during the print until the filament in the tip hardens and clogs the nozzle until I clear the nozzle with a needle. I don’t know if this is actually and issue that can occur or what to do about it. I’ve included a photo of a failed first layer of a print.
Thanks in advance

I think you are getting partial clogs of the hot end. Have you tried a cold pull or used cleaner filament?

It seems that the issue was a partial clog. I’m not sure how that’s possible because it still didn’t work when I switched nozzles but after doing many cold pulls it started working again. It there is some issue besides a clog that can be fixed by cold pulls it would be great if someone could let me know, but as of right now I don’t see how it could have been anything but a clog. It took about five cold pulls to fix it, so if anyone is having a similar issue I would recommend trying many cold pulls before giving up.
