MK3S+ is incredibly loud / noisy
Hello Everyone,
as the title says, my MK3S+ is just way to loud. The printer was purchased in March and just has a couple of running hours. It has been that loud from the beginning.
What I've tried:
- Different location (on the floor)
- Retightening all the screws.
- Stealth mode.
I used to have an CR10V3 and it was not even close to the noise my MK3S+ is producing.
I don't know what to anymore. Do you guys have any suggestions?
Here is a video of the printer killing my ears... https://www.icloud.com/photos/#0Q5GBh5SlitmhVW5wiISc2Taw

If you are running linear bearings with balls and you didn't grease them ... time for some maintenance before they freeze up. I replaced my linear bearings with Ignus Drylins for X and Y (not on Z) and no longer have bearing noise.
The Y motor can vibrate against the back frame. There is a better Y motor mount that doesn't have that problem in the print library. This sound can be very loud (the Y motor vibration) and shows up on certain infill settings. On my new MK3S I added a piece of mylar between the Y motor mount and the frame to increase the distance so the Y motor vibrations cannot rub against the back frame.
The front case (mentioned in the post above) has all kinds of loosies. Take it apart, put a piece of tape over the buzzer (it's way too loud), and put a foam layer between the buzzing surfaces (tap it, you will probably find some).
Resonance - print a set of squash ball feet and your printer will be 50 % quieter.
Internal vibration?
Sounds to me like two pieces vibrating together. I've seen something similar with the bezel around the display vibrating or the Y-axis mount vibrating. Try holding on to different parts of the printer with your hand while the print is running. If that influences the sound, you may have found your culprit. I had to do this on mine and found the display bezel vibrating. I put a small piece of rubber between the bezel and the display PCB and that fixed that issue.
Usual suspects

@dan-rogers
Thanks for your reply. I think the bearings and y motor is definitely my biggest issue at the moment.
Would you mind linking those bearings and the y motor mount? I already had a look at the library but couldn't find anything that was also referring reduces vibrations.

And the Y mount..

If you buy those Drylins from Amazon, please note that those come 7 in a package. Don't be a doofus and order way too many.
Yep. That's me.
Tore the printer down, replaced all of the bearings, and it's quite a bit quieter. Still pretty noisy, though.
RE: MK3S+ is incredibly loud / noisy
I have installed sintered bronze bearings on my MK3. They have less mechanical slackness than the Drylins, are maintenance-free (oil impregnated) and whisper silent.

RE: MK3S+ is incredibly loud / noisy
I bought the Drylins and gave them a try but for my taste the tolerances are a mess and they had just way to much slack.
For now I ended up properly greasing the stock bearings again which made them already a lot more silent than before. I think some of the bearing balls where so loss (not surrounded by greas) that they where responsible for most of the rattling noise.
Those bronze bearings looks peaty nice, which model are they?
RE: MK3S+ is incredibly loud / noisy
Drylins need a "squeeze" to dial out the play. The new X carriage back is drylin friendly (the old back was less so) and the new metal clips are drylin friendly (easy to tighten down to get that squeeze) and if you have the old MK3S bearing holders, you need to print some new ones or buy the metal clips.

Selfmade for my MK3's and the Mini.
To make the outer dimensions compatible to the LMU8, I pressed the sinter bushings into a 15mm brass sleeve and adjusted the length to 24mm.

I am very New to 3d printing and i recorded my mk3S, could somebody tell me if the sound is correct, and if not any idea on what could be the cause ?
Here IS a link to a soundtest
Thanks,

RE: MK3S+ is incredibly loud / noisy
This sound's ok to me, but you should use some vibrations damper to get ride of the resonances.
You can try these if you want: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/87105-mk3-spring-feet-optimized-to-prevent-lateral-vibra
RE: MK3S+ is incredibly loud / noisy
Those are sure weird feet. How do they compare to the squash ball feet for eliminating resonance amplification?
RE:
I haven't tried the squash ball feet because didn't wanted to buy extra stuff. For me they do a very good job eliminating resonances and still not allowing the printer to start shaking to much.
For those that want the noise to stop - squash ball feet.
Squash ball feet just work. No guessing, no hoping.

Just wanted to say, Dan Roger's suggestions worked wonders on a hand-me-down system I got recently. Between the Igus bearings and the squash ball feet it's cut down the noise so much I can now hear the clicking PSU. 😂 But seriously, thanks for those suggestions! Been a huge improvement and very welcome. Almost helps with tolerating how slow it prints 🤪 🤣
