MK3S Extruder-body replacement colour

Hi guys,

During the assembly of my MK3S I managed to break the Extruder-body (nut got stuck in screw, tried to cut the screw head off and the part melted).

I also have a Dremel 3D printer, and downloaded the model to print a replacement part; however, I only have transparent PETG (there is no other for Dremel, part of the reason I bought the MK3S), or black ABS and PLA.

Now my question is: how likely is it that I will have problems with the IR sensor when I use the transparent PETG for the Extruder-body (all other parts are still original black)? Or will my extruder have problems if I use black but with another material?

Thanks in advance,

Pascal

Good morning Pascal,
the IR sensor should be OK, if you still have the black Filament Sensor Lever!

Or, print it with whatever you can, paint it black, and use it to print a proper replacement in black PETG; reassemble.

Cheerio,

I did the exact same thing yesterday.  My problem is I have a MK3S+ and the parts or files are not available yet.  Waiting for Prusa for some help.

Thank you all so much for the quick replies!

I've got one issue now: I printed the part I downloaded and it looks slightly different than the one I got in my set. The marking on the bottom says D1 for the one I received, and the newly printed one is R5. Are they compatible, or if not, how do I get the D1?

Cheers,

Pascal

@e-g-john-doe

@e-g-john-doe

I've noticed the same thing.  Do you have the MK3S+?  The parts in the online store or the STL's don't match the parts I have. Slight differences.  I was told the D1 marking on our parts was the revision.  Mine are also marked as D1 and I have the MK3s+

See this reply from the thread I started

I've asked Prusa for the STL files or a way I can buy the replacement parts.  Still waiting for a response.

@zp7893

maybe I am missing something, as far as I know, all the files except for the Mini+ amd Mk3S+ are available on:

https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/

if you want the construction files I believe  they are on Prusa's Mk3S Github page

Those are the MK3s files. Not the modified MK3s+ files.

The easiest way to determine if its a MK3s+, is to open the Einsy case, look at the pinda probe, if there are 4 wires, then you have a MK3s, 3 wires on the probe then you have the MK3s+ If you have the plus, contact support, explain the issue and then ask them to get you the correct file for the + series but it might take 24-48 hours since they are not published yet.

RE: MK3S Extruder-body replacement colour

Thanks for all the answers!

To clarify, I know I have the MK3s without the +. The part I had in the kit was marked as "D1" on the bottom, and has at least 2 more screw holes and slightly different shape in some corners than the R5 I printed (see image below). It looks as if most parts may fit, but I'd hate to find out after doing half of the assembly and then cut the whole part open just to get all the nuts out again.

So my question is if anyone knows if the different printed part versions are compatible with the whole kit of the printer (in my case the MK3s), or if I have to either find the D1 version or print out all other parts as R5 (which will get me into trouble as I don't have black PETG).

If noone knows, I'll probably just try as soon as I got the time for it and let you know.

Cheers,

Pascal

Update: assembly with the R5 part doesn't work, the FS lever doesn't fit.

Gotta say, this is quite annoying from Prusa, how hard can it be to publish the correct parts...

Do you want to look here for kicks?  I know you said you didn't have the +, but those files were released today.
