MK3S Auto Home OK, XYZ Calibration Fails

I just upgraded my MK3 to MK3S. The self test passes OK, and the PINDA probe is positioned almost perfectly above the first circle after Auto Home. But when I run the XYZ Calibration, as soon as the PINDA probe gets near the bed, the process stops and fails with "Calibration failed! Check the axes and try again." In this case, the PINDA probe is nowhere near the circle.

I've read about this problem, but I haven't seen a case where this happens with Auto Home working successfully. What are some things I can look into adjusting?

Apparently this site has a problem with posting videos, so here is the link:

Hi Ryan,
Could your Pinda be too low?
auto home only checks that the Pinda can find the Buildplate/Heatbed.

XYZ calibration checks the expected length of the axis.  if the Pinda is too low, the Z axis may appear too short.

regards Joan

Thanks Joan. That ended up being it. I tried the zip tie trick but (the flat part) for positioning it, and that made it too low. I then set it too high and the nozzle dug into the heat bed a bit :-Z. Once I got it set properly, the tests passed successfully.

After a MILLION attempts, and failing at the fourth point, I realised it can't be the PINDA so I tightened the screws attached to the pulley and OH MY GOODNESS, after 7 hours it has FINALLY passed the fourth point!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

@jmpc76

I'm having the exact same problem. Which screws are you referring to? Pulley?

the X and Y motors have toothed pulleys which should be fastened using two grub screws, each

One grub screw should be facing the centre of the Flat, on the motor shaft, the other should be fastened against the curved side of the motor shaft,

the Grub screws should NOT be tightened using the rounded end of an allen wrench, because that is likely to split the hex cup on the grub screw.

you should use the other end of the grub screw with the parallel sides and flat end... if the screws are missing, have a look at the magnets on the underside of the heatbed.
If that fails, have a look in the spares bag.

I'm having a real problem with the calibration. After the Z axis test, the hot end comes down and starts doing its thing at point 1 of 4. It ALWAYS catches on the paper. I have repeatedly adjusted the PINDA, but it keeps catching on paper. I have no idea what "you should use the other end of the grub screw with the parallel sides and flat end" means.

How do I stop it from catching the paper?
