I have had a similar experience on my ender-3.  Not sure why or how to prevent it.

I have similar problem. 

Issue is related to the extruder motor that gets too hot after some hour of printing activity. This is not a big deal for the motor its self that is certified until 100 degrees. The real problem is that the heat goes through along the shaft of the motor ‘till the bearing. When this last element reaches 60-70 degrees the PLA gets soft, extruder bloks, filament melts and the show is off.

Prusa have to solve the problem, there is lot of people around with same problem expecially during hot summer or using enclosure preventing extruder motor heat sink.

meantime your can try to unscrew a bit the cover of the bearing to release the pressure, this could cause the motor to warm up too much.

other thing you can use filaments with higher melting point such as PETG or others

I'm having the same problem and filament isn't getting extruded. I can't find a way to clean out the gunk on the gears. Can anyone point me to the artcle?

After I disassembled the hotend, I was able to work the melted plastic off the gear.  Did not need to take the whole assembly apart, just removed the print fan and extruder motor.  Skip Steps 5-7 here: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/how-to-change-a-heatbreak-heatsink-heaterblock-mk3s-mk2-5s-mmu2s_16104 and you should be good.  Or search the Knowledge Base and there is a specific article on cleaning the Bondtech gear but I could not find it straight-away.

There is a thread here with an extender motor cooler that also has a small duct to send some of the air into the extruder to cool the bond tech gears. They also talk about a Goode line that will reduce the motor temp as well.

i have a similar problem, one mount mk3s, pla prusament grey received as bundle

after 2h the extruder sound is like a "clack"

i cleaned the hotend but in the next print session the result is the same
