Marked bearings on X-axis during assembly but didn't do anything with the markings

I finished assembly of my MK3S+ a few days ago and everything seems fine. I realized going over a few of the assembly instructions that I marked the bearings for the X-axis before putting on the smooth rods but then there was never really a step specifically indicating which way to turn them. The pictures have them all aligned facing out so maybe it's just implied. I don't think I actually did anything with mine so they are probably randomly placed. This step seems to have been added later online as the hard cover assembly manual doesn't even mention marking them at all.

Is this just to prevent the assembly from hanging from a single rail of bearings and wearing a groove in the smooth rod? I'm assuming you want the bearings spread 45 degrees apart and straddling the top of the rod instead of all the weight on one row of bearings.

My calibration and prints seems fine, should I worry about this at all? It seems like something that wasn't even a thing when my hard copy assembly guide was created.

To fix it, I guess I'd have to snip all the ties on the cable holder, pull back the cable wrap and remove the back cover at least. Seems like a pain.

The marks help you visually verify that you have gotten them off axis from each other - 45 degrees is fine solution.  I remember the step from when I assembled, and remember what I thought they were useful for.  That's a miracle for this swiss cheese mind - but these little details are crystal clear.

Hey

It is normally recommended to use the online manual, it is more up to date, although it still has all steps in the printed one, just minor tweaks are made often.

The process to align the bearings once marked is actually in the extruder assembly mounting, step 44

https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/5-e-axis-assembly_169235,

I would go back and align them correctly, you could get issues, either print quality or premature rod and bearing wear.

If it was me I would definitely go back and correct if they are wrongly aligned.

That link doesn't seem to want to work for some reason

@clarmrrsn

Ah ok. I see that now. Since that part wasn’t in the printed manually and I was switching back a forth a bit I probably missed it. I assume I can probably align them maybe without even removing the zip ties so hopefully not too bad of a process.

Should be easy enough.

Easy to miss a step in the manual, such a lot of information. I must say though, prusa manuals are some if the best I have ever used.  And I use service and technical manuals on a daily basis. (Well, when I am not shielding anyway)

Let us know if any other issues, a lot of very knowledge people on here, I am still learning myself.

Tank you very much!

This must be something new they added.  I built my MK3S+ in December and marking the orientation of the X-axis bearings was not in the print OR online manual back then.

Since I already had the markings on the bearings, I only had to pop off the back cover of the assembly and I could just rotate them in place without even removing the zip ties. Only took me about 20 minutes.

If the bearings weren't marked, I think I would've just ignored it for now because there's no way I'm removing those smooth rods from the X axis assembly. I didn't think I'd ever get them all the way in there to begin with 😀
