loose strands and rough areas??
I built my kit in July, so still very new to all this.
However, I have been enjoying printing iris boxes, and have had some success. But, I haven't been able to figure out how to remedy the rough areas and stray strands of filament that exist only between the outer shell and the base. The outer shell moves about the base, bringing the leaves into open and close position.
Here are a couple images showing the PLA box printing now, and the problem area. Thanks for any help provided.

Re: loose strands and rough areas??
I don't know this print but think i have seen it in a ytube I would think there might be a lot of retractions going on in those failed lookin layer. On the plus side those colors will make a striking object. Look at the exported code in slicer for retractions or any other thing in those layers.

Tks for the input. Not entirely certain how to do what you suggest, but I will work on it.
The box has 22 mins left of 56hr print, and it looks pretty good except for those layers. Also, I have discovered something important - I decided to go with 20% infill. I think that a bad idea because the machine almost shook itself apart, as it struggle with infill within very thin walls. I am shocked that it was able to complete without any shifting.
Anyway, thanks again and I'll close back here with a pic of the final product.

Re: loose strands and rough areas??
does that bottom part have allot of overhang in the model?
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.
Re: loose strands and rough areas??
I would think so. or you might be able to change the model so it doesn't need supports. that looks like a water drain on the bottom, maybe you can add a support every 1.5 cm or so. unless you want to go removable supports. but I hate cleaning those up with a passion. my testing with default setting seems to get a 1.5 cm overhang printed good, anything over that I would have to change settings. and overhang settings are like last on my list of settings I want to mess with. when I get my MMU I wont have to care anymore 😀

Tks again, and unfortunately it would have to be removable supports because the print is an iris box and the upper bowl-shaped piece rotates about the base piece.
Here's one I printed in action .
Btw, I hate removing supports too.
tks

Re: loose strands and rough areas??
is that printed in one print? cool. maybe I can start looking into settings for overhangs. might be worth it for something that neat 😀

Re: loose strands and rough areas??
Yeah, that's the cool thing about it, it is all done in one print. But, this one took over 56hrs.
Here's a pic of it, and a smaller one, sitting on my printer for size reference.
I'm sure your well past me in knowledge, but if you have any basic questions, I'd be happy to help.

Re: loose strands and rough areas??
hope they work at least, you might be able to print smaller until you figure out the overhang settings
