Look at the backside of a print, for first layer calibration?

Can you look at the backside of a print, to know if you need to adjust the first layer height?

I just printed the logo, and it looks good on the front. But on the backside it is not perfectly smooth all the way...

One side of the printed item is more smooth and the other side has more of the same lines that are just barely visible on the smooth side.

Can this be used to know if I could make the first layer more or less squished?

What side is printed facing the build plate?

If the Logo Back is facing the build plate (it is the first layer printed), then you need to redo you live-z.

If the Logo Back is facing away from build plate (printed last), then it can be your live-z, extrusion multiple, or more issues.

What kind of surface finish did you think it would be? The printed first will always have a smoother surface since it's pressed up against a flat build surface.

Lastly, you can try ironing in CURA if you want to try to achieve a smoother top finish.

The logo back is facing the build plate... And yes, I got better results after lowering the first layer height.

Oh, it is not the surface finish I was actually unhappy with... I was just thinking if these lines could be used to fineadjust the first layer height. It is easier to see than the "first layer calibration" that just prints a long line and then a small square... 🙂

Hi Kent, are you using 7x7 mesh bed levelling (tests 49 points instead of the normal 9 points.... )

It's selectable from the LCD Menu,

Life Adjust 'Z' My Way, uses a larger square test print, which makes adjustment of Live Z more easy, and provides a large enough test patch to easily see what the bottom side looks like for final adjustment.
