Leveling probe tries to probe outside the bed

When my i3 mk3s does its mesh bed leveling, it probes the third point outside the bed, on the right side of it, and the leveling therefore fails. When i try to selftest, the printhead moves smoothly back and forth the x gantry, but gives a "Please check: Axis length" error. I've checked the pulleys and the belt, and nothing seems wrong. I haven't had much luck in getting potential fixes for this, so I'm trying here now.

RE: Leveling probe tries to probe outside the bed

If its moving too far to the right then that would suggest that its not homing far enough left.  Check that nothing is obstructing the FULL travel to the left hand side of your bed.  Things like the cable bundle, the extruder fan screw heads etc.  Even a badly positioned cable tie on the bundle can cause problems.

How long have you had the printer ?  Has it ever worked correctly ?

Homing for the X & Y on the Mk3 printers is done by the stepper drivers detecting a spike of current when it physically meets an obstruction on an axis.  So it will drive left and as soon as it gets resistance it will assume that is X home.  If there is ANYTHING that will throw it off.  Also extra resistance in the bearings can also cause the same thing so check that the axis moves smoothly for the full travel.

Thanks for the answer. It travels smoothly to the left with no obstructions and stops all the way to the left. It even knows the correct coordinates when I move the x-axis with Settings -> Move axis.

The printer around 5 years old and has (to my knowledge) not had this problem before.

Have the Smooth rods and bearings been lubricated?
If not, now may be a good time to try it.
