Issues with XYZ calibration

IMG_2243 2

Every time I do the xyz calibration on my printer, I get to the part where I have to hold a piece of paper under the nozzle. I follow all the steps correctly, but then it fails on “searching bed calibration point 1/4” and says “calibration failed! Check the axes and run again”

Does anyone know what I could do to solve this?

RE: Issues with XYZ calibration

I am pretty sure you need to have a single sheet of paper flat on the bed for that.  See

It sounds like either the Pinda sensor might be too high up and not detecting the bed.

Or maybe you are trying to do the XYZ with the steel sheet in place?  The initial XYZ calibration is done with the steel sheet removed.

I've tried lowering the Pinda sensor and it never seems to do anything. I also don't have the steel sheet on the bed. I'm not sure what else to do!

With the printer on, the Pinda should have a dim red light visible on the top.  If you put a piece of steel, say a wrench, screwdriver or even an allen key near the bottom of the Pinda, the light should go out.  If the Pinda does not light up, double check it is plugged in correctly at the Einsy Rambo board.

The light works correctly

RE: Issues with XYZ calibration

I'm running into this exact same problem. Self test works fine. I can use the menu to move the extruder along all 3 axes without issue. If I use the menu I can get the extruder close enough to trigger the pinda sensor light to go off. If I use the menu to move the extruder up away from the board, the pinda sensor can detect a metal object all the way across the x axes and doesn't flicker or anything. I have tried adjusting the pinda sensor up and down and it doesn't solve the issue.

When I try to run xyz calibration, it says "Calibrating Z" and makes noises while not really doing anything, then prompts me to put the piece of paper on the bed, so I put the piece of paper on and click to advance, then it moves about a few millimeters down in the z axis and instantly fails no matter what height I start the calibration at. This suggests to me that maybe it thinks there's something wrong with the z axis motors, but I can't for the life of me figure out what I would even adjust? I took 3 days to put the printer together just to make sure I did every step correctly, so I really doubt I made an error that would cause this.

RE: Issues with XYZ calibration

I was able to get through calibration by loosening the trapezoid shaped nuts on the bottom of the z-axis by the motors and by manually moving the z-axis all the way to the top before starting calibration. Currently I'm stuck failing during first layer calibration at the second mesh bed point with "some error occurred, z-leveling enforced" so something janky continues to happen with my z-axis even after successful calibration.

RE:

this is caused by a break in the wire or a faluty pinda sensor what i would suggest is unscrew the pinda hold it up make sure the light is on and give it a wiggle if the light goes of at any point this is a break in a wire check that and report back

thanks

@galactic-yeti if that dosent work factory reset printer when it says would you like me to guide you through calabration click no go to first layer calabration and run that and see what error  you get  thanks hope this helps please report back if this works or not and @constructicon when it says calabrating z the extruder should go up to the top then come down

RE: Issues with XYZ calibration

Thanks for the clarification. I think that's the problem. When it says calibrating z axis it only goes up an inch or so then stops. The parts at the top seem very level, so I'm not sure what would stop it going up. When I move the z axis via the settings menu it seems to go up no problem. I already loosened the little nuts at the base of the z axis so that there's a small gap between them and the motors.

RE:

Re tighten the screws now raise the z axis up manually about 20 cm to the top if you still get errors unscrew the 2 z motors completely the move z axis to the top you want to get the hole x axis assembly off then run it let us know if it works or not thanks ps sorry for such a long thing

RE: Issues with XYZ calibration

Thanks, this did it. I loosened the two z motors, the z top stops, and the trapezoid nuts, raised it to the top, tightened the stops at the top, tightened the trapezoids, then lowered it to the bed and tightened the motors. Now when I calibrate it goes up to the top correctly before coming back down. Wish this was in the manual.
