Incorrect printer?

New to 3D printing, printer seems to be working fine, but every time I slice something for gcode then load it up it says it's formatted for a different printer? I'm using the PrusaSlice program to get the gcode and have my printer as the only one I'm able to select (I3 MK3S+)... Any idea what's going on?

It doesn't seem to be hurting anything but... If 20 years in IT has taught me anything... Random error messages are never a good thing 😛

RE:

Hi there,

ok, so you own an MK3S+.  Does it still run on the factory-installed firmware, or did you install a new firmware at some point in time, so that you may have installed the wrong firmware?

The PrusaSlicer should at least give you options for the

  • "Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3S+" (this is the version equipped with the 0,4 factory standard nozzle)
  • "Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3S+ 0,25 nozzle"
  • "Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3S+ 0,6 nozzle".

Have you selected the correct version for your nozzle size?

If so, have you changed the nozzle size in the printer´s (sic!) menu, which makes the printer believe to be running another nozzle diameter? 30 years using IT has taught me that the bug is usually placed in front of the display 🙂  🙂

Cheers

Chris

I try to give answers to the best of my ability, but I am not a 3D printing pro by any means, and anything you do you do at your own risk. BTW: I have no food for…

RE: Incorrect printer?

Yup, I have the 0.4 nozzle selected, updates the firmware to latest version, and the I3 MK3S+ is the first firmware available for download on the Prusa downloads page so I know that's not the issue either 🙁

And yeah that's what has me concerned... If a setting is wrong somewhere, then I don't know where. I haven't changed any of the "Advanced" settings, the fanciest I've gotten was tuning in my live Z adjust.

Are there any print symptoms I should keep an eye out for that would indicate there's a nozzle setting wrong somewhere?

RE: Incorrect printer?

can you attach a zip compressed project file or a zip compressed G code, that you have sliced with Prusa Slicer, please?

deskStandTest

Try not to laugh too hard, just a test prototype I threw together to test and see if a print like this would even be possible or if the supports would be too annoying to remove (Side note: Supports printed and snapped out fine but the bottom platform warped, guessing that has something to do with my temp settings?)

RE: Incorrect printer?

Sorry the zip file contains gcode.  We need your project file.  In Prusa Slicer use File>Save Project as to save a 3mf file.  A 3mf contains the model(s), copies of the 3 profiles you have selected and any modifiers etc that may be in use, painted support areas etc.  Its basically a snapshot of your configuration.  With it we can slice and diagnose things much much easier.

Its also a good habit to get into saving projects each time as a general workflow.  They are much easier to revisit an old project if you need to make and changes.

While we can import most of your settings from a gcode file some things cant be.  Like when I do such with your gcode file your printer is showing as a MK3S with MMU2S.  That may be the root cause of your problem there.  Are you actually using a MMU on your MK3 ?  The MMU printer option is a completely different printer.  It has 5 virtual extruders, the purge block etc.  None of which is applicable to a basic MK3.  It will generate gcode that its also designed to go to the attached mmu unit.

The selection of a MMU printer will also be changing your available filament profiles and also the print profiles availability.

Unless you are using one ?

RE: Incorrect printer?

To be fair, Joan explicitly ask for gcode... Any way, Neophyl is correct, 3mf-project is the better choice and your gcode is sliced for a MK3S with MMU, line 231:

M862.3 P "MK3SMMU2S" ; printer model check

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

RE: Incorrect printer?

Sorry missed that Joan asked for either the project or gcode.

RE:

I see, I apologize for that and will keep that in mind in the future 🙂

I think I found the setting I need to change, when I went through the wizard there wasn't an option for the MK3S+, only the MK3S and the MK3S+ / MK3S+ MMU2. Completely missed the part where there was an MMU2 Single option. Doesn't seem to have affected anything with print quality so far (Unless... Maybe that warping?), hopefully this will stop the errors tho! Thank you for the help
