I think the pulley stepper is spinning in reverse when I try to load filament to the nozzle.

I bought an MK3S in January and I'm in the process of assembling and testing the MMU2S upgrade. When I ordered the kit I managed to hit the wrong button order the MK2 MMU to MK2.5S/MK3S MMU2S, after consulting with tech support on chat I ordered 2 extruder steppers to complete the build. Now when I try to use the load to nozzle. The stepper in the Pulley position spins in a counterclockwise direction when trying to advance the filament. I have opened the while the motor is spinning and the gear is rotating in a direction that will eject rather than load the filament. I have flashed both board successfully and am wondering if I have messed up the wiring for the steppers.

TIA

Howard

Sounds like it is plugged in backwards; just reverse the stepper plug and it will go in the right direction.

I just checked the connections and the plugs are keyed to go only one way. Now I'll need to find out if there is a difference in the wiring of an extruder stepper and the pulley stepper.

Any thoughts muchly appreciated.

Check the wire colors in the connector. If they are not the same sequence, odds are they are phased different. But if they are the same, it's unlikely they are different - but that's based on older experience with same brand, same series motors;  different brands could use a different color coding.

It is possible to remove the pins from the housing and resequence them so the motor spins opposite direction.  The pin lock is fragile, but can be released and tweaked to work again.  Brain fade is preventing me from explaining more ... so a data sheet of the motor will come in handy if you try it.

I'm guessing that is the case. The pulley stepper on the MMU2 is mounted on the right, and so must spin CCW (looking at the back of the motor) to feed filament. The extruder stepper turns CW to feed filament. But it would be unusual if they did that, seems far easier to do this in software and (from a tech support/product inventory perspective) to have all motors pinned the same.

But as noted above, the pins can be rearranged with some care and manual dexterity.

Thanks all for the input. So far I have opened the MMU2 case to look at the motor connectors and all they are all the same. I should have clarified that the direction ccw was from looking at the motor from the shaft side, and would be cw if looking from the back or right side of the MMU if looking from the front of the printer.

I think it is reasonable to assume that the motors would all be wired the same and direction controlled in software.

I'll put in a call to tech support and see if there is something I have messed up.

Thanks for the help

Hi hhargit,

I think I also have the problem of reversed pully when loading filament I see it’s spinning backwards fast. Have you already had contact with tech support and if yes what was their conclusion?

Did you get this sorted? Have you noticed if it first spins the correct way so that it triggers the FINDA and then turns the wrong way? Mine did that and it turned out to be an IR sensor problem. The IR sensor got triggered by the bondtech movement in the extruder so the MMU started pulling backwards. Check the sensor info while you try loading. Its easier to check if you start a print than when loading to muzzle. Gives you better time to navigate the LCD menu.

Good luck
