I think my PINDA Sensor has Failed

Got my printer last week.  After dealing with a few issues I have made several successful prints.  Then today I got the "Bed leveling failed. Sensor didn't trigger. Debris on nozzle? Waiting for reset" message.  There was no visible debris on the nozzle but I wiped it off as best I could anyways.  I tried doing the xyz calibration and it works its way down circling looking to the first point until it plows into the heatbed.  I shut everything off and rechecked the PINDA position the same way I did in first assembly and made sure there was nothing on the sensor.  Tried again with Z Calibration and it just comes down and hits the heatbed on the first point.  It is like the sensor isn't seeing anything at all.  I can see the red light if I look in the top of the PINDA I can see the red light, so it is getting power.

Do I need to replace the sensor?  That would be very disappointing after less than a week of use.

RE: I think my PINDA Sensor has Failed

that is an unusually short time to failure,
check that the plug is properly inserted in the einsy and that the wires are properly seated in the plug, (one might have worked loose!

I have checked the wires and nothing seems to be amiss.  Re seated the connector in the einsy as well.  No improvement unfortunately.

You can check if the Einsy board is seeing the PINDA by using the control panel - dial to Support and select it, dial to Sensor info and select it.  The value should be zero. Put a piece of metal under the PINDA to trigger it and the value should change to one. If it does that the PINDA is good and the Einsy board is suspect.

Thanks for that.  I ran this test and the PINDA sensor state remains at zero whether I put the metal sheet under it or not.  I notice that when the metal sheet gets close enough to the PINDA sensor the red light you can see through the clear part at the top of the sensor goes out, but the zero on the LCD display never changes.  Wondering if this means there is a broken wire in the PINDA cable maybe?

That or the connector is not seated fully/correctly. If that seems ok... time to hit up live chat; they should get a replacement to you in short order.

I did try reseating the connector a couple of times to no effect.  The wire seems more likely given that I had good prints as recently as Tuesday night.  If a wire was pinched or weak it would be stressed by the extruder head moving around and flexing the cable bundle containing it, which could have led to its eventual failure.

Makes sense. Time to hit up support - have pictures or a video on hand showing that the screen shows 0 even if you have something metal under the PINDA and they'll take care of you.

Heya - any resolution on this? Having the exact same issue, already replaced the PINDA sensor and flashed new firmware.
