How To Adjust/Move the PINDA Down?
Hi,
I need to adjust my PINDA down closer to (towards) the build plate. BUT HOW???
I got my new i3 MK3S and although it was "set up" out of the box.....well the First Layer Calibration (Z axis) showed that I need the nozzle just a little closer to the build plate; HOWEVER - my Z axis value is at 0.000, and so I can't set that value higher, which would lower the nozzle (or move it a touch closer to the build plate).
THEREFORE....it seems I need to adjust the PINDA down closer to the build plate; so that my Z axis number is negative (as opposed to 0.000)....................but HOW?
I looked at the allen or set screw on the plastic that holds the PINDA, but the PINDA is threaded and there's NO EASY way to adjust it down, because the wire at the top is soldered.
Thanks in Advance!
RE: How To Adjust/Move the PINDA Down?
the more you lower the pinda, the further from the build plate, your nozzle will become.
if your extruder is too high, you need to adjust Live Z with NEGATIVE NUMBERS to get it closer to the build plate
what happens is that the during Mesh Bed levelling, Pinda attempts to set the extruder assembly, a known distance above the build plate.
and then you adjust the Live Z values to adjust the actual nozzle to build plate distance.
IF the Extruder and Pinda relationship are set correctly (as shown in the assembly instructions)
https://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/9.+Preflight+check/1053?lang=en
You should be able to adjust Live Z satisfactorily.

@akerezy - bookmark a post in your browser rather than opening new posts for followup questions.
And, Live-Z is a NEGATIVE value; not positive as you are trying to make it. Normal range is -0.500 to -1.500;
Live-Z is NEVER greater than ZERO.
RE: How To Adjust/Move the PINDA Down?
H E L P ---- I'm so confused.
My PINDA is already set at about the distance of one plastic tie, as shown in the picture below, and my live Z is at 0.000 ---- but I need the nozzle LOWER or CLOSER to the build plate. Remember - I did not set or change anything, my live Z value is just what it was out of the box. I didn't even assemble this thing, it was already assembled.
So you're telling me if I make my live Z value more negative, it will move the nozzle lower or closer to the build plate? (that's not what the manual seems to suggest)
RE: How To Adjust/Move the PINDA Down?
negative numbers do move the extruder towards the Build Plate!
like I said... Last Month! Lol

I have the same problem, but when I turn the knob to negative number the nozzle moves further away from the bed, not closer. Maybe a firmware issue?
RE: How To Adjust/Move the PINDA Down?
@marcalot
are you saying that in Live Z adjustment, as you make the number a larger negative number, the nozzle moves further from the build plate, not nearer to it?
How are you measuring it?
if adjusted properly as shown in the assembly guide,
during a home Z, or Home all axis, Your pinda measures a safe distance from the build plate, to the pinda probe tip. and stops the downward travel of the Z axis... this means that the distance between the nozzle which is fixed to move up and down in relation to the Pinda, will be a safe distance above the build plate, but because of the initial set up, the Nozzle tip will be closer to the build plate than the pinda tip.
at this stage the Z height will be reported as 0.0 mm BUT the nozzle will always be too high.
so you now need to do Live Z adjustment. and adjust the nozzle closer to the build plate. the Live Z value on a newly assembled Prusa Mk3 / Mk3S will always be 0.00mm and the ONLY way to adjust it is negative, the more negative the closer to the build plate.
the Prusa First Layer calibration tool is pretty poor,
I prefer a larger patch so that you can make adjustments during the print and see changes in the patch surface...
I use "Life Adjust 'Z' My Way"
I hope this helps you.

Yes, when I adjust to Negative value, the Nozzle is moving further away (UP) from the build plate. I think its supposed to move down which is the problem. Maybe a problem with the firmware?

@marcalot
that's a very unusual situation,
has the printer ever worked properly, ?
have you tried changing the firmware?

Thanks for the reply Joan.
No its a brand new unit I finished building nad still hadn't managed to get the layer adjustment correct. I agree, it should not have moved further away from the bed.
I finally managed to start my first print. I upgraded the firmware to 3.9.2.
Im starting a benchy print test now.
Ill do a review on the printer once I've completed a few tests.
Thanks for your help.
