Help? random streaks of previously used filament

Can anyone tell me why the black streaks might happening? This is easily the 4th print since I changed filament from black to white. And actually, in one of the earlier prints, some grey turned up. And that was from before the black. I have cleaned out the nozzle to the best of my ability -- maybe I need to do better? Or might there be filament lurking somewhere else?

I haven't taken everything apart yet because I'm a little afraid of not putting it back together again. But I am prepared to do that....I think. 😕

and yeah, I know I also have to deal with the stringiness. I clearly have issues to work out. Just dealing with one at a time. 🙂

I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts!

Re: Help? random streaks of previously used filament

You've probably got bits of burnt filament stuck to your heater block that flakes off mid-print. Remove the orange part cooling fan using the single screw up front. Warm up the extruder, then carefully use a brass or nylon brush to get some of the built-up burnt filament off the block. Be very careful around the heater cartridge and thermistor wires. Put some paper down (without the bed heated) to catch the debris.

Probably not the issue here, but cleaning filament and reading up on doing cold pulls is a good idea when switching colors.

Thank you, I did try a few cold pulls which yielded nothing, which is another reason I assumed the filament was hiding somewhere else. I will check out the heater block over the weekend, when I have time again to mess with the printer.

I appreciate the reply!

Belated thanks -- yes, there was a giant blob of filament on the heater block!
