heatbed screws are very very tight

Hi ya'll,

I'm assembling my MK3 and it seems to be going pretty well. One problem though: I'm on part 7, step 17 (assembling and installing the heatbed). It seems that some of the nine M3 holes are very tight for me (even if I test running the countersunk screw through without the plate in).

I think the powercoat has gunked up the threads a bit. Is it acceptable to run a M3 tap through the holes to clean out the powercoat as needed? I’m worried that I’ll break a screw otherwise.

Any feedback would be appreciated 😉

Stewart, Kevin,
I would do that carefully,

you need to get the tap to clean out the existing threads rather than cut new ones

Thanks Joan! I did that and it worked great! I intentionally left a bit of the powdercoat skunge to serve as a bit of threadlock. My printer is now assembled and I got a great first print! For others other steps I did after initial testing:

* Z cal quite carefully with a test pattern of 9 squares across the whole plate - this allowed me to put in a slight abount of bed level correction (just tweaked until the 20um layer looked the same on all 9 parts with good squishing.

So much nicer print results than my old trusty Makerfarm pegasus (which I'm upgrading from). Now on to printing the new extruder parts in PETG...
