Grinding/Rattling sound from y-axis
Hi all, I assembled my first Prusa I3 MK3S printer this week and it is printing perfectly. Except.. the y-axis is making a abnormal loud grinding noise when making fast short movements. (Gyroid fill pattern)
When printing the perimeter you hardly hear anything.
At first I thought this was normal, but it seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have an Idea what may be wrong? Are my linear bearing damaged? Of did I screw up something with the assembly?
Thanks for any advice

Hi Hans, the first thing I can think of is perhaps you over tighten the U-bolts that hold the bed to the bearing. These really should be just tight enough that the bed does not wobble and loose enough that no extra pressure is put on the linear bearing. if they are too tight the will be noisy in my experience.

Thanks matthew, I have checked the U-bolts and they are just tight enough not to move. Also when I move them individually they don't make any strange noise.
It seems/sounds like the vibration of the motor in combination with the bearings get amplified by the bed. Moving fast is not that bad but moving slow is.
Here is a short clip of what it sounds like when moving slow & fast:
Mayby, this is normal I don't know, I have no reference I3 🙂

Just chatted with tech support, it seems to be a faulty bearing.
Bummer, but this happens 🙂
