Flex filament not detected by filament sensor

Hi everyone,

 

I have been printing with ninja te filament, but it is not being detected by the filament sensor at the extruder, so it gets sucked back up by the mmu2 unit and goes in this infinite loop.

 

Any way around this? Disabling the filament sensor didn't work. I have been starting prints with a normal filament and then feeding the flex in after the first layer to get around this. I would prefer not to do it this way. Any help is appreciated!

Can I disable it somehow? Anything I can change in the gcode?

I tried it once with the MMU lol  If you've spent enough time working with the MMU and understand how it kind of works, you'd give up on that lol.   I have a second MK3S that I do tpu stuff like ninjaflex on.  you can technically unplug the mmu and then it will function effectively like a non-mmu printer.  you'll have to manually load the filament I think.  I might have done that once.

While I've pretty much tamed the mmu for the most part(after LOTS of frustration, bad language and beer), the tpu+mmu thing seems like masochism to me.

TPU in the mmu is not officially supported.  there's a reason all those filaments disappear from the list when you switch it over to MMU profile.  while you can copy a filament profile and remove the gcode that makes it do that, it's that way for a reason.  If your printer isn't in an enclosure, it's not a big deal to unplug the power from the mmu.  some on here have even wired in a switch which is what I'd recommend if you're going to be doing that often. 

I'm interested in what others have to say about it.  I've done a LOT of printing with the mmu but given how it works I wouldn't even expect tpu to have a chance of working.

I print with tpu on the mmu2 regularly, I've optimized most of the parameters and purging values and have a python script that makes some additional modifications although with the latest alicer and firmware updstes i need to make an additional code mod. If there is a breakdown, it's usually due to poor quality because some material from filament Y is left on or in the nozzle and interferes with material X deposition.

 

Unplugging the mmu might be the way to go, Thanks for the tip!

Yeah I’ve experienced too much frustration with the mmu lol  I’m looking forward getting the XL so i can ditch the mmu altogether.  Best of luck!

Just one follow up though-- any risk or possible damage if the mmu2 unit is unplugged?

Just do it with power off.  There are several postings on this forum that talk about doing it. One includes a wiring a switch inline so you don’t have to unplug it
