First print result. How to improve it?

I printed this (see attached photo) from a file provided on the SD card. How to make it print better?

Buy a injection molding machine?

Buy a 10,000$ CNC milling machine?

Buy a 20,000$ SLS 3D Printer?

Invest 1000-5000$ in a small SLA printer?

Seriously, I don't see much wrong with your print.

It looks like the standard over extrusion most people have. Printing from a pre-generated file on your SD card, you aren't going to get much better.

If you want to start "mastering" high quality prints, you need to slice your own files, and you need to be willing to "experiment".

At your quality, the only real thing I could say is "lower your extrusion multiplier". Which, is 100% normal for the "built in SD card files". You should change the extrusion multiplier in your Slicer, NOT your printer. (which means using pre-sliced files is kinda "not fixable" regarding that.

If you really want, try dropping your extrusion multiplier about 7% on the printer.
(93%)

But that will cause issues with your slicing down the road when doing your own stuff. (it should reset every time you reboot the printer) I try not to change ANYTHING on the printer itself... but that's just me.

Hi, I'm Sean. I used to work on CNC machines.
I try to not make mistakes, but the decision is YOURS.
Please feel free to donate to my filament/maintance fund.

OK, I'll try making a benchy then. Hopefully the SD card file for making that will be more polished.

Attached is a photo of the bench that was printed from the file on the Prusa I3 MK3 SD Card. Not perfect, but I guess about par for a hobbyist 3D printer.

Looks pretty good! I can't tell super well if some of those artifacts are ringing or the weird extrusion issues some people are having, but to improve you could try lowering the print speed.

Epilog: I upgraded to firmware version 3.2.0, and I generated the g-code using slic3r. Result: the print quality is noticeably better:

🙂 🙂 🙂
