First print removing filament loop

Hi,

When I start a print it heats up the bed and extruder, homes itself, calibrates z, goes back to the front left, and then it goes to the right and says "please press the knob to unload filament". I press the knob then it says  "was the filament unload successful?". Then it wants me to reinsert the filament which it loads it correctly and goes back to the left to reheat. Once it does the extruder goes back to the right and wants me to unload the filament  again. I got the kit and think it might be a wiring problem but am not exactly sure. I am able to post a video if it helps. Any help appreciated.

Disable the filament sensor, see if the problem stops.

Then check firmware revision. You should be at 3.7.1, just be sure you use the correct version for your printer. People have downloaded MK3S firmware and flashed it to their MK3. And that causes filament sensor issues.

Go into settings and turn off the filament sensor and see if it prints then. I suspect that the tripping of the sensor is not working as desired.

Hey Gnat - are you getting occasional 504s and missing gateways?

Cool. Your next step is to turn it back on. Then in the Support menu there is an option (not at mine right now) that let's you see the status. Start with filament out and then insert it. If the value changed like it should, try wiggling things a bit. If you see the value change, you need to make some adjustments. That might be as simple as tightening the idler door or you might need to fiddle with the sensor mechanism (I have an MMU which trips the IR sensor a bit different, so I can't provide more help there).

If, instead, the value doesn't change when you insert the filament, then you likely have the wiring issue that you suspect. If you find the wiring is correct, reach out to support as you could have a bad IR sensor.
