First print first layer issues

I just assembled the Mk3 kit. Went smoothly, all tests passed (XYZ calibrations says printer is perpendicular, yay!). I think I got the Z dialed in ok at -1.022.

Washed the surface (the basic steel sheet, not the powder coated ones) with dish detergent and warm water, dried with paper towels, than wiped thoroughly with 91% IPA (Apparently we have no acetone or 99% IPA in the house. Ordered.)

Started the first print - the Prusa logo. Here's what I got on the first layer. As can be seen, most of it looks fine, but there's two spots in the outer rim where something bobbled. And the first layer of the logo looks wavy and uneven.

Thoughts? Is this ok, or is there an issue here? I don't have much experience printing, and none on this kind of surface...

Thanks.

Re: First print first layer issues

Hi there, I am having the exact same issues with the new MK3, same wavy ugly 1st later and it caries on through all solid layers.

I have tried different filament, 1st layer heights and extrusion rates and those changes made very little difference. Perhaps I need to go to more extreme settings for extrusion rates?

On the other hand I printed Benchy the tug boat and it turned out near perfect. 😕

that looks like your Live Z is too low,
try reducing the negative number a little!

Thanks Joan, I found if I went to much lower the print would have adhesion issues but I will tinker and experiment some more.

Cheers

I think you neeed to be Less low!

the ripples are caused by squeezing too much plastic into too small a space
